Black Sapote and Banana Smoothie

A Black Sapote and Banana Smoothie is a delicious and nutritious treat. Black Sapote, also known as the "Chocolate Pudding Fruit," has a rich, chocolate-like flavour when ripe, making it a unique and tasty addition to your smoothie. Here's a simple recipe:

  • 1 ripe Black Sapote or frozen sapote is even better
  • 2 ripe bananas or frozen is even better
  • 1 cup of milk (you can use dairy or a dairy-free option like almond milk)
  • 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt (optional for creaminess)
  • 1-2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
  • A dash of vanilla extract (optional)

  1. Start by peeling and removing the seeds from the Black Sapote. The flesh should be soft and ripe, similar to an avocado's texture. You can freeze it ahead of time  - just scoop the rip fruit out of the skin, discarding seeds and freeze in ice trays.

  2. Peel the bananas and break them into smaller pieces.

  3. Place the Black Sapote, bananas, milk, Greek yogurt (if using), honey or maple syrup, and any optional ingredients like cinnamon or vanilla extract into a blender.

  4. Add a handful of ice cubes if you  haven't used frozen fruit and want a colder and thicker smoothie.

  5. Blend all the ingredients until smooth and creamy. If the mixture is too thick, you can add more milk to achieve your desired consistency.

  6. Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness with more honey or maple syrup if necessary.

  7. Once it's perfectly blended and sweetened to your liking, pour the Black Sapote and Banana Smoothie into glasses.

  8. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a banana slice if you like.

  9. Serve immediately and enjoy your unique and flavorful smoothie!

This smoothie offers a delightful combination of the chocolate-like flavour of Black Sapote and the sweetness of ripe bananas. It's a healthy and tasty way to enjoy the unique black sapote fruit.
